Sunflower seed husks, a huge waste product of the vegetable oil and food industry, could be used as an environmentally friendly filler, or aggregate, for concrete according to Turkish researchers. The team of Namik Kemal University in Turkey demonstrated that the use of husks reduces the density of concrete as well as boosting the material's resistance to cracking after exposure to icy conditions.
Sunflower seed husks can actually be used as a suitable aggregate to make concrete By Briley Kenney May 6, 2013 no comments Email article | Print article Sunflower seeds are pretty yummy, but they come with a lot of waste.
Sunflower seed waste as lightweight aggregate in concrete production Concrete of 300 and 400 dosages was produced by adding various amount of SSH (5, 10, 20 and 30%). The replacement of SSH dramatically reduced the unit weight, compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and freezing-thawing resistance, but it increased the water absorption rate after 28 and 90 days.

01.01.2018· Among vegetable aggregates, those obtained from sunflower stems were documented to sustain the obtaining of an ecological concrete with improved thermal and acoustical properties. In this research were obtained different variants of ecological concrete based on sunflower stalks as a partial replacement for mineral aggregates.

Sunflower seeds are pretty yummy, but they come with a lot of waste. Unless you buy a bag of them that are just the seeds, you often have a huge pile of broken and decrepit shells to go along with them. As it would turn out, if you collect enough of those husks, you'll have a suitable source of aggregate, or filler for concrete. That's right, concrete.
01.01.2018· This type of concrete with sunflower aggregates can be used in non-structural purposes, such as screeds and bricks or panels for non-bearing walls. As comparative research, Chabannes et al. (2015) studied some wall mixtures made of concrete with sunflower and hemp aggregates in a mass ratio of binder versus aggregates of 2. In this study, four concrete mixtures with different shares of cement replacement by ash from the combustion of shells of sunflower seeds were prepared (0, 5, 7.5, and 10%). Table 3 lists the proportions of all constituents in the mixtures.

01.07.2020· Shell sunflower and shell pumpkin are easier to obtain from seed oil production plant such as Kernel Oil Company in Ukraine. For example, the total production of sunflower seeds is approximately 45 million tons annually. If approximately 21–30% of total seed weight is shell sunflowers, the annual production of shell sunflowers is in the range of 9.45–13.5 million tons per year. Ukraine

Polished : This method is used more for decorative purpose than being functional. Rather than the aggregate being exposed, a sander or grinder is used to level the surface and make it completely flat. Layers of coat sealers are used to achieve a polished and shiny
In the interests of sustainable development, building materials using lignocellulosic aggregates like hemp concretes are more and more used in green construction. This type of concrete made of plant aggregates has particularly attractive thermal and hygroscopic properties. The hemp produced by agricultural holdings represents 10,000 ha in France whereas sunflower production is about 700,000 ha.
The sunflower seed is the fruit of the sunflower (Helianthus annuus). There are three types of commonly used sunflower seeds: linoleic (most common), high oleic, and sunflower oil seeds. Each variety has its own unique levels of monounsaturated, saturated, and polyunsaturated fats. The information in this article refers mainly to the linoleic variety. For commercial purposes, sunflower seeds

Those demands regular concrete couldn't satisfy so they started researching on getting new, improved construction materials. In this paper was performed an analysis and comparison of properties for two concrete mixtures. First, reference mix, contains a stone flour and in the second mix the proportion of stone flour was replaced with ash produced by the burning of shells of sunflower seeds in

Keywords: Date Seed, Concrete, Coarse Aggregate and Exploratory. 1 Introduction Provision of housing for developing countries is one of the most important basic needs of the low-income groups. It is a very difficult requirement to meet because the two main conventional or classical construction materials (concrete and steel) are imported and their prices are considerably beyond the reach of

and Elastic Properties of a Composite Olive Seed/Crush Aggregate Concrete which showed that 1:1:2 concrete having 30% uncrushed olive seed content with water-cement ratio of 0.5 had a 28day compressive strength of 10.95 N/mm2. Ibrahim (2- 001) studied the use of crushed olive seed shell as full replacement for coarse aggregate in concrete and observed that at full replacement there was a 9%
03.04.2010· One reason contractors might seed concrete rather than adding decorative aggregate to the mix before pouring or casting is the overall cost. “You could be adding 2,500 pounds of aggregate, and aggregate can run 10 cents to 20 cents a pound,” says Tim Blankenship, concrete specialist at Blankenship Concrete Specialties. “You could end up adding a couple hundred more dollars per yard
